So often we hear about stories of how one life touches many. But here’s a story about how many lives stopped to care for the one.
Andrew first came to The Mustard Seed Support Centre to access the computer lab and telephones. At the time, he was living in a building where he did not feel safe.
Over the course of a few months, Andrew got to know the Street Level and Resident Engagement teams and began to make inquiries about the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program. After a few meetings with the housing teams, Andrew was approved to move into to the 1010 Centre in Calgary.
Since moving into the 1010 Centre, Andrew is positively engaged with Mustard Seed Staff and fellow residents. Andrew plans to go back to working full-time, but until he is able, he contributes to The Mustard Seed community including helping with a New Year’s event, providing disk jockey services in his free time, and helping other residents fix their computers (for free!!).
When asked about his relationship with Mustard Seed Staff, Andrew says the following:
“They impact me in a positive way by being friendly. I have someone to talk to when I have a problem. They calm me down if I’m having a bad day. I don’t react to things how I used to. I feel comfortable to be around the Front Desk Staff, they help me cope with situations. They are a positive support and presence in my life. Street Level Staff has changed me in a way where I am learning to handle situations better.”
“I feel good. They are nice people and I feel that they all have a hand in partnering with me, rather than make me follow,” says Andrew.
