“Can I go back next year!?”
This was what we heard from the 60 kids who attended camp this summer! Thanks to our wonderful and generous donors, together we helped transform the lives for kids from low-income families, who otherwise may not have had an opportunity to go.
In collaboration with Camp Caroline, Camp Nakamun, Camp Chamisall, and The Inside skateboard camp, our community hubs collectively worked to send youth from all across the province. With activities and programming varying from horseback riding, zip-lining, campfires, and cabin time, there was no shortage of things to do.
The week-long experience challenged them physically, but more importantly, helped them build meaningful relationships with new friends and start them on their spiritual journey with God.
“There’s always one or two things that they come home with.”
Aside from the mosquito bites and camp-fire smell, parents have told us that their kids are different when they come back – in a good way!
“She can’t wait to go back next year,” a parent told us. “She’s now interested in becoming a counsellor in training, then a real counsellor after that.” Additionally, another child who returned home told us she “wants to be baptized” and learn more about God. “I want to live through him.”
Every child came home with their own little piece of camp – whether it was a kindled relationship with God, a new skill-set or hobby, or a new friend. The takeaways are priceless.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you”
Our Volunteer Project Coordinator, Annie, who organized this year’s camps said she was contacted by a few parents who mentioned, “this was BY FAR the best week of the summer for my child.”
The amount of positive feedback has been overwhelming. Without our incredible donors, these children would not have had this transformative opportunity. We are extremely grateful and thankful for everyone involved.
The smiles and stories that are pouring in have made a lasting impression. The Mustard Seed is honoured to once again be a part of experiencing the unforgettable and truly look forward to this program again next summer.
