At the beginning of 2023, everything changed when Jonathan was introduced to The Mustard Seed. Through the employment program, he found not just a job, but a newfound sense of purpose.
“I’m a people person,” Jonathan says with a smile.
“I hadn’t realized how much I enjoy greeting 100 people a day until I started working as a greeter.”
Through The Mustard Seed’s employment program, Jonathan found a job as a greeter at the Royal Alberta Museum.
For the past year, Jonathan has thrived in his role. He’s not just a greeter; he’s like an information officer, welcoming visitors with warmth and kindness and answering any questions they might have.
“This job has brought me a sense of fulfillment I hadn’t felt in years,” says Jonathan.
As he approaches his 65th birthday and the cusp of retirement, Jonathan reflects on his journey with gratitude.
"The Mustard Seed has made this employment program a success for me,” says Jonathan. “I have learned things and now look forward to meeting new people every morning.”
One of Jonathan's most cherished moments is interacting with children who visit the museum. With a simple finger puppet, he can bring a smile to their faces.
"We have had sick kids in here, and I can do something for them to bring them joy," he says.
Because of this job, Jonathan's outlook on life has transformed.
"I am almost 65, I have survived," he says.
Jonathan’s journey with The Mustard Seed has not only provided him with employment but also a renewed sense of purpose.
Jonathan is a living example that it is never too late to discover a new passion and make a difference in people’s lives.
