Shaw Employees Grow Hope at the 1010 Centre

At The Mustard Seed, we get to experience firsthand the dedication of organizations in our community to making Alberta a better place for all. Shaw Communications is one of them.

In 2012, Shaw donated $1 million towards the construction of the 1010 Centre, affordable housing , and since then Shaw Communications has donated another $1 million worth of advertising to the RESOLVE Campaign to help raise awareness about the need for more affordable and supported housing in Calgary.

On June 22, The Mustard Seed held an event to express our deep gratitude to the Shaw organization for its commitment to being a force for hope in the community.

The “Growing Hope” appreciation event gave 40 employees from Shaw Communications the opportunity to tour the 1010 Centre and participate in a volunteer activity. They worked on third floor patio, planting a herb garden and a flower garden for residents to enjoy over the summer. They also planted individual potted flowers with encouraging notes that resident could take to their rooms.

Shaw employees were able to experience the impact of their organization’s contribution on the lives of people experiencing poverty and homelessness. They were also able to learn more about The Mustard Seed and ask questions about some of the issues affecting people in need.

“We are grateful from the bottom of our hearts,” said Richard Deschenes, Chief Development Officer. “Your support grows hope in the lives of people who need it most.”

It was such a pleasure for us to host this event, just as it is such a pleasure for us to work with the many organizations in our community that listen, understand, and want to be a part of the solution.
