Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink
For another year in a row, The Mustard Seed has been chosen to be a charity partner for the Birdies for Kids. Birdies for Kids is a non-profit program run under the Calgary Shaw Charity Classic Foundation. The Foundation was formed in conjunction with the Shaw Charity Classic golf tournament as the philanthropic arm. The motto for the tournament’s charitable efforts is ‘Kids Need Heroes.’
All proceeds donated to The Mustard Seed will go towards SEEDschool. This unique, hands-on-learning initiative for children and youth in Grade 3 and up engages students with hands-on learning about poverty and homelessness with the goal of challenging them to raise awareness about these issues in their community. These students develop tools that equip them with greater empathy and an open-minded perspective of poverty and homelessness while immersing themselves in a variety of activities. One student in grade 4 shared with us "SEEDschool has helped me learn more about empathy and about how people experiencing homelessness aren’t mean people who you should stay away from. I now know that people experiencing homelessness are just like us. Small people like us can do great things!"
