Demand for Food Hampers is Increasing

Your donations are incredibly important to many people in need.

If you take a look at what is happening at the Food Depot at The Mustard Seed, you will see why your generosity, kindness and compassion are so valuable.

Demand at the Food Depot is up 20 per cent from the same time last year. The depot at The Mustard Seed is one of the largest in a chain of depots working with the Edmonton Food Bank.

While demand is up, the amount of donated food we can provide is actually down. We now only have enough food to fill two shopping bags, instead of the usual three bags.

Cindy, The Mustard Seed’s Food Depot Coordinator, says “it’s so sad, there are so many people with such great need and now we have to scale back what we can give to people.”

“I ask everybody to pray. Please pray for food.”

We are seeing more people who have worked hard for years, but are now unemployed. We have people “making their way here who have never had to use these services before,” says Cindy.

In addition to the regular food hamper program, we also provide an evening meal to men, women and children six nights a week, as well as an emergency food hamper program.

Thank you for helping us serve people in need.
