This year, the ‘Wise Wolves’ Grade 3 class at Velma E. Baker School dedicated themselves to being difference makers.
The class planned to participate in a sandwich group at The Mustard Seed, hoping to provide healthy meals to our community participants who struggle with access to nutritious food. Groups who volunteer to make sandwiches often donate a certain amount of money to cover the cost of the food and supplies needed. Eager to give back to the community, the Grade 3 class set out to raise $200 to fund their sandwich group.
To do so, the students wrote letters to stores – including Safeway, Superstore, Sobeys, Save-On-Foods, and COBS Bread – calling for them to donate groceries in order to cut down on their class’ cost. The class even held a sweet-treat fundraiser at their elementary school for students from kindergarten through Grade 6. To their surprise, and absolute joy, the Wise Wolves were able to raise much more money than expected through the sweets-sale and had most of their groceries provided to them free of charge!
After final costs, the class had $700 from their fundraiser to donate to The Mustard Seed and to, most importantly, help those in need.
Thank you, Velma E. Baker Wise Wolves. You are definitely difference makers in our community!
