Over 35 Years of Growing Hope

The Mustard Seed has been serving individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness for over 35 years and has become a haven for those in need.

We have been an agent of change for more than three decades, thanks to our donors, volunteers, and support from the community.

Our History

The idea for a street ministry came from Pat Nixon who founded The Mustard Seed in 1984. Pat decided to turn his vision into a reality when he started The Mustard Seed in an old house in downtown Calgary, which later transitioned into a larger building on 11 Avenue SE.

Today, the organization operates in multiple locations in western Canada, including Alberta and British Columbia, and offers an expansive range of programs and services to our most vulnerable community.

Programs and services include:

  • Basic needs (food, clothing, and hygiene items)
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Health and wellness
  • Spiritual care
  • Housing and emergency shelter

With the support of our donors, volunteers, and the community, The Mustard Seed continues to grow and meet the needs of those we serve.
