Second Glance Clothing Offers a Second Chance for Community

Leduc’s Second Glance not-for-profit thrift store handed out its final donations of 2015 on Friday, Oct. 23, giving thousands to a wide range of local and regional charities and programs. Linda Blumenthal believes she can help fight poverty and homelessness in Leduc by supporting The Mustard Seed in Edmonton. Linda explains there is a lack of services in Leduc that support people who have fallen on hard times, so they have to come to Edmonton to get assistance with clothing, food, shelter, and other support services.

“The Mustard Seed helps people in the community who are the most in need of compassion and support, and that is why we have donated to them for over 10 years,” says Linda, Chairman of the Second Glance Clothing Ltd. Board, which donated to 26 organizations this year alone. The Mustard Seed, she says, is one of the organizations that is always on the list.

“The funds that we give to The Mustard Seed are donations, and we have faith that those donations will be used to continue their mission of growing hope and supporting change in the community.”

The Second Glance Board makes annual donations in November, so that the funds can be utilized during the busy Christmas season. In the winter months, warm clothes, hot meals, and shelter are of vital importance, and The Mustard Seed relies on these donations to meet the needs of community members throughout the cold winter months.

“When we first started supporting The Edmonton Mustard Seed all those years ago, they were a newer organization and they really needed the support. Even though they have grown, we recognize what The Mustard Seed does for people, and they have become an organization that is close to our hearts.”

Linda adds that the Second Glance Clothing Board would not be able to make their generous donations without the support they receive from people in Leduc and surrounding areas. She says that all of the funds they donate come from donations that are collected through Second Glance Clothing Ltd. and through other companies and events in the Leduc community.
