Foothills Shelter – Temporary Relocation

Overview

The Foothills Shelter will temporarily relocate in early summer 2026 so that essential repairs and improvements can be made to our current facility. These updates will help us continue providing safe, dignified, and supportive shelter services for the long term.

What’s Changing: This summer 2026, the Foothills Shelter will temporarily move to the Starfield building, 5495 61 Ave. SE, so the roof at our current location can be replaced. Once the work is complete, we will return to the Foothills building.

Shelter operations will continue without interruption.
The new location will still be accessible by public transit on route 148, as well as routes 23 and 147.

What’s Staying the Same

We are working hard to keep things as consistent and familiar as possible:

We will continue to provide shelter and meals for 370 guests.
Lockers and storage will still be available.
Mealtimes and service will remain the same
Access to clothing room and hygiene supplies will continue
Washrooms and showers will be available
Yellow bus service will continue with the same route
Shelter rules and expectations will stay the same.
Donations will still be accepted at the Starfield location - seven days a week from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

What You Need To Do

Please review the new transit routes to the shelter.
Consider reducing the number of belongings in your locker at Foothills before the move.
Move any belongings currently in 30-day storage.
Consider volunteering to help with the move. Staff will share more information closer to he move date.

We’ll assist with transporting belongings stored in lockers and 30-day storage.
Is the new location transit accessible?

Yes. The new shelter will be on the same bus route as Foothills (Route 148), and it will also be accessible by routes 23 and 147.
Will there be parking?

Yes, for guests who request it. There is no street parking.
Will daily operations change?

We’re doing our best to keep the routines and services the same.
Will I still get my reserved bed?

Yes, if you stayed the night before, your reserved bed is guaranteed.
Will it still be a sober shelter?

Yes, the new shelter will remain sober.
Will there be somewhere to smoke?

Yes, there will be a designated smoke pit, similar to what we currently have.
Will I still be able to drop off donations at the temporary shelter?

Yes, donations will still be accepted at Starfield, seven days a week from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
