Calgary SEEDReach

Our mobile outreach team, SEEDReach, assists our unhoused and at-risk population. They are dedicated to providing accessible, holistic, and wraparound supports for individuals on the street. The team consists of registered social workers, advocates, and nursing staff, who record more than 100 client interactions each month.

Calgary Wellness Centre

Our Wellness Centre staff work with agencies across Calgary to provide advocacy, mental health and addiction counselling, chaplaincy, tax clinics and legal advice. Advocates also connect with guests to provide assistance when applying for Alberta Works, AISH, and obtaining referrals for clothing, prescription glasses, and legal assistance.

SEEDschool
Since 2017, SEEDschool has existed as a program of The Mustard Seed in partnership with Campus Calgary/Open Minds, which provides Calgary teachers with the opportunity to move their classes to The Mustard Seed downtown for an entire week of curriculum-based experience. Teachers design and implement a year-long interdisciplinary study that uses the week at The Mustard Seed as a catalyst for learning.

Formerly known as DEMOcrew, SeedServe is a multi-day experience that has existed at The Mustard Seed in Calgary since 1996. Offered to churches, schools, and colleges/universities, SeedServe seeks to expose and educate students about the issues of poverty and homelessness. This transformational experience offers insight into these issues through service opportunities, hands-on experience, and dialogue with individuals who have lived experience.

Calgary Employment

The employment program is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to excel in their job search. We offer comprehensive support in various areas, including resume crafting, interview preparation, and effective job search strategies. Beyond this guidance, we extend our assistance to job placement by collaborating with community employers to identify suitable openings and seamlessly connect our program participants with these opportunities.

Additionally, our program offers a "Fast Track" initiative, supporting individuals who have secured a job by assisting them with work gear on a case-by-case basis.

Calgary Spiritual Care

The spiritual care team consists of dedicated and passionate chaplains who work with our community seeking spiritual growth. As a Christian organization, spiritual care is the cornerstone of what we do. As disciples of Jesus, we believe we have a calling to help those in need navigate life’s challenges, which may include one’s purpose, legacy, hope, and faith.

Support includes bible study, the Alpha course, baptisms, one-on-one counselling, and prayer.

Edmonton Shelter

The Mustard Seed Strathcona Shelter meets the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness and poverty on the south side of Edmonton by providing those staying at the 45-bed shelter with meals, hot showers, laundry access, hygiene supplies, and advocacy services.

The Mustard Seed Central meets the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness and poverty in downtown Edmonton by providing those staying at the 124-bed centre with a safe place to sleep, meals, hot showers, and wrap-around supports with a special focus on the provision of nurse-led health services to those that require it. Edmonton Employment

Our Employment Program supports unemployed and underemployed individuals, including those facing barriers due to homelessness and poverty. Working closely with our clients, we strive to obtain meaningful, dignified work and financial stability. Support from our coaches includes skills development, resume building, job searches, employment retention assistance, and access to work attire and protective equipment. Our work experience programs offer a stepping stone for individuals as they reintegrate into the workplace.

Our program also partners with local businesses and organizations to provide individuals facing barriers to market employment with work experience and training opportunities.

Edmonton Housing

The Mustard Seed’s Housing support programs connect clients with safe, affordable housing and community support. Outreach and follow-up support workers work together with a primary focus on helping our participants find appropriate housing, which could be their forever home. Once they are housed, the participants get the support of a follow-up support worker to connect participants to resources they need to become independent and to maintain housing.

The Mustard Seed operates three supportive housing projects in Edmonton - Westwood Manor, Open Door Manor, and Prairie Manor. Westwood Manor is a 20-unit permanent, supportive housing initiative that serves men and women with a history of chronic homelessness through a harm reduction model. Open Door Manor is a 16-unit apartment building that provides safe, low-cost housing. And Prairie Manor is an 85-unit permanent supportive housing building offering affordable housing with wrap-around supports.

Edmonton Wellness

Open Door

Our Reintegration Chaplains work closely with local federal prisons to support inmates with their reintegration back into society. We offer support groups, one-on-one support from our chaplains, and up to 12 months of one-on-one mentorship from a volunteer. This program also helps former inmates secure safe housing, obtain identification, begin working with an employment coach, and learn about other supports and resources available in the community.

The Cedar Point (formerly, Coordinated Care Campus) is a permanent supportive housing building offering residents stable, safe, affordable housing with wrap-around supports. The Cedar Point adopts an innovative approach to supportive housing by choosing a location designed to support residents with various services, healthcare, food, inclusive Indigenous and multi-cultural spaces, and recreation—all in one place. For over 35 years, The Mustard Seed has been a safe, supportive haven for individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness. We offer health and wellness supports to those in need with the goal of helping them make positive, lasting change in their lives.

The Mustard Seed works with a variety of community agencies in Kamloops to provide advocacy and access to resources that support our participant’s whole selves. Our advocates help community participants navigate social support systems and provide access to other resources that improve overall health and wellness. In order to support healthy relationships with one another, we offer our participants community-based programming that encourage a state of well-being across mind, body, and soul. Men's Recovery Program

Men’s Recovery Program offers housing, meals, and supports in a sober environment for men working to rebuild their lives after addiction and/or homelessness. There are 17 private bedrooms and a shared common living space where residents can enjoy time together.

Thrift Store

The Thrift Store is an elevated and dignifying shopping experience. We accept new or gently-used clothing, jewellery, household decor, and small household items. Proceeds from the Thrift Store are used to support Mustard Seed programs and services.

Donations can be dropped off Mon. - Fri., 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the alley behind the Thrift Store. Please ring the doorbell and someone will assist you.

Extra hands are always needed to help us sort and organize these donations.

Wellness Centre

Our mission is to support and care for the whole person. Through our health & wellness programs, we support and aid people experiencing homelessness and poverty to improve their overall health and well-being through a client-centred program that is tailored to individual strengths.

Advocacy is the basis of our health and wellness programming, providing navigation through challenging systems for those experiencing environmental, social, and cognitive barriers. Our wrap-around care includes access to health services, such as counselling, assessment, and occupational therapy, as well as system navigation to access food and clothing, ID services, transportation, health education, and financial security and benefits.

Red Deer Wellness Centre

The barriers preventing people from transitioning out of poverty and homelessness are as unique as the individuals facing them. Our wellness advocate breaks down these barriers by meeting with clients to determine which programs and services best meet their needs. These health and wellness services include counselling; medical doctors and nurses; assistance with obtaining ID, employment, income support, and housing; community resources; drop-in programming; and much more.
