Employment Team Hosts Job Fair for the Homeless

Sustainable employment is one of the key steps in getting people out of a cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Our employment team understands this deeply, so on November 3, they hosted a job fair to connect people who are looking for work to job openings.

Many people came to get help filling out applications, improving their resumes and to meet with representatives from Kelly Services, Guardian Condominium Care and Cintas, who were there to discuss employment opportunities.

“It was a huge success, and we got far more people that we expected,” said Jeremiah Smith, employment manager at The Mustard Seed.

For the employment team, the benefit of this event was twofold.

“It brings employers into The Mustard Seed to see what we do every day and understand how we work,” Jeremiah said. “It also allows people experiencing homelessness and poverty to see that there is a community that wants to help them.”

Each year, 200 people get jobs through our employment program. Our dedicated coaches work with employers across the city to connect people to opportunities so that they can find sustainable employment, which can ultimately change their lives.

The employment team hopes to host events like this more frequently.
